Pinball 101 & Pinball 102 flyer

I've spent a lot of time in pinball venues over the years: From hobbyist conventions to dedicated pinball meccas, to barcades and arcades and pinball co-ops. If you've spent a few hours at a Free Play arcade, you've probably seen this as well: people come in never having seen or played pinball before and they struggle with starting the game and sometimes have to be told where the flippers are. This often ends up with a few games in a row that have 4-player games and someone walked away during player 3 ball 1.

There must be a better way to entreat these people into the world of pinball, so I decided to write a Pinball 101 info card in the hopes of conveying the basics to pinball neophytes of the world. Annie Socoria teamed up with me and handled the design side, and shout out to all of the people I consulted with my early draft(s).

Not only will the flyer give the basics, but it gives people something to take home. Maybe they'll see it and remember the fun then had and it will act as a reminder to go back. There are helpful links on the back to help encourage new players, and hopefully help inspire future pinball fans.

We designed 101+102 to fit an 8.5x11 page so it could easily be printed at home. You can print + fold, or print 2 copies (with duplex on the short edge) and cut in the middle and you can have Pinball 101 on one side and Pinball 102 on the back. Feel free to print them flush to cut cardstock for your own arcade! 

These are free to use for pinball arcades everywhere.

Experience Social: Ottawa's new pinball arcade

Currently in their "soft open" phase, Experience Social is a massive pinball arcade located on Greenbank near Hunt Club.  They have over 70 pinball machines, plus numerous other arcade machines.  They're open long hours and have many days that are $20 to play all day.

If you are in Ottawa?  You need to visit.
If you are not in Ottawa?  Plan a visit.  After the photos I will include a section for people who want to come.

Visiting Experience Social

If you stay at a hotel near the airport, Experience Social would be about a $20 cab ride to-and-back from Experience Social.

The venue allows outside food and drinks, but also sells snacks and I believe they will soon be licensed as well.  The venue is all-ages, outside the occasional band-nights. The only downside is that the venue is down a flight of stairs.

So not only is it an economical choice for a family outing, but I think it's the perfect destination for travelers that want to go on an epic pinball vacation without going to the USA.

Experience Social in the broader context of North America

 

Ottawa International Airport is code YOW.  There are some very affordable hotels and motels between the airport and the arcade.  Ottawa is also the capital of Canada so there's lot of great tourist stuff to do here, but let's be real: You're coming for the pinball.
