Exploring the arcade in 大当りパチンコ娘 (1952) aka Oatari Pachinko Musume aka Jackpot Pachinko Girl

This is a movie I have been trying to find for a long time.  It is a comedy filled with small sketches and songs centering around a pachinko parlor.  I have uploaded this film to the internet archive.

This film was released in January 1952, so it was shot in 1951.

illustrations of the characters have been added to this pachinko machine.  You can see the original below.

The opening credit shows a series of 6 different pachinko parlors.

And now let's go inside!

we see a rapid-fire appearance of characters and gags, including this man who has received a phone call, with the phone wire stretching out across the entire street.

a priest incanting more pachinko wins

women crushing an attendant, pouring through the doors

purchasing balls

some lovely barakugi-style machines

entrance into the office via a door under the pachinko lineup

I'm going to show the back-room scenes out of order.  In this room there is what appears to be a very distinct pre-war pachinko machine.

in this frame we can see it says "White and Red"

Back to scenes in the parlour:
this man purchases a single ball

and of course he cockily nails the jacpot

this is the machine we see in the opening credits.  If you scroll to the top of the post, you'll find an image of it.  Images of the actors were pasted on top of these characters for the title sequence.

From Kazuo Sugiyama:
The theme was originally taken from a nursery rhyme called “Ushiwakamaru,'' which says,  “On the Gojo Bridge in Kyoto, the grown man Benkei raises his long sword and attacks Ushiwaka.''
The faces of Benkei and Ushiwakamaru are pasted with caricatures of the actors in the movie.
This machine works so that if you enter the "2000" prize slot at the top, 20 balls will come out, and if you win anywhere else, 10 balls will come out.
This movie was released in January 1952, so it was shot in 1951.
Suzutomi Shokai hired Kazuo Nagasaki, who invented an automatic dispenser for round center cases, and was the first to sell all products.
I've never seen a machine with 20 payouts and 10 payouts.
This is a very valuable image.

his friend, in awe, decides to do the same thing

she does NOT have time for shenanigans!
This shot shows them using paper cups to dispense balls purchased by the players

with a hat like that you can't lose!

this guy can't stop winning

the machine in the center of the frame above has a lovely center trail for the ball, similar to this famous machine:
Lottery Ticket 宝くじ 1948

this guy is uses his chopsticks to snack on pachinko balls from the winning cup

a rare high-angle shot
